MARKETING EDUCATION

The Marketing Program at Central Kitsap High School is designed with a variety of students in mind - the student going to college or the student going to work.  A primary goal of Marketing is to develop an interest and understanding in the field of business.  The classes focuses on an understanding of business, human relations and leadership, selling, business economics, starting a business and job finding skills.  Students also have the opportunity to work in paid jobs within the community for credit and to develop related skills in a chosen retail field.

 

MARKETING

The courses are available to sophomores, juniors and seniors, but it is encouraged that students enroll in their sophomore or junior year.    Students who have completed the Marketing Store Operations class are allowed to take Marketing Store Management.

 

WHERE WILL I WORK?

Students who take courses in Marketing Education prepare themselves for work throughout the Business Community.  This includes department stores, theaters, the apparel and fashion industry, the banking and credit industry, the grocery business, restaurant business, all areas of recreation marketing, automotive sales and parts industry, transportation and travel market.

 

HOW THIS CLASS MEETS GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS:

Any of the courses in the Marketing Program in the Central Kitsap School District help to fulfill the one and a half credit occupational education requirement or an elective credit.

 

 

MARKETING/INTRODUCTION TO BUSINESS

1 Semester                 Credit:  .5   (Tech Prep Credit Available)

This course teaches the fundamentals of the business world. It introduces the topics of : types of businesses in our economic system, how products get from the producer to the consumer, the human needs in our economic system, and the buying, selling, advertising, market research, and the functions of the marketing. Students will have the opportunity to learn the basics of business that will assist them in getting their first job. Work experience credit is available through this course. * Tech Prep credit available with one additional semester or year long Marketing class. 

 

MARKETING/ADVERTISING

1   Semester             Credit:  .5

This course will focus on newspaper, radio, and television media, as well as other media used in the business world. Students learn how to lay out ads, write copy, develop headlines, and design logos that are used in advertising. Creativity in design and displays will also be demonstrated.  Work experience credit is available through this class.

MARKETING/JOB FINDING SKILLS

1   Semester            Credit:  .5

This course course is designed to teach students how to apply and interview for jobs and other related situations including college entrance interviews, fashion boards, etc.  Students will develop a resume, fill out job applications and assess their skills as related to the employment world.  They will be able to identify the sources of potential jobs and the importance of their positive attitudes in a work situation. Students learn to operate a cash register.  Work experience credit is available through this class.

MARKETING/ MANAGING BUSINESS

1   Semester            Credit:  .5

This course will provide students with basic elements needed to start their own business.  Students will be able to demonstrate knowledge in ownership, decision making, business principles, business operations, and leadership skills. Work experience credit is available through this class.

MARKETING/E-COMMERCE 

1 Year                      Credit: 1

In this course students will learn about the impact of the internet on the business and marketing fields, develop and understanf the concepts of E-Commerce, and have the opportunity to practice and use the marketing techniques needed for buying and selling goods/services and ideas. Work experience is available through this course. 

 

 

MARKETING STORE OPERATION

1 Year                         Credit:  1

This class will provide students with a strong understanding of retail operations in business by working hands-on in the student store. Students will demonstrate knowledge of merchandising by selecting products to be sold through marketing research and by working daily in the store and at the espresso machine. Students will also learn inventory management, customer service skills, and business leadership styles. This class is a yearlong commitment. The students will be involved in the local Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) chapter. Work experience is available through this course. 

 

 

MARKETING STORE MANAGEMENT

1 Year             Credit:  1

PREREQUISITES: Successful completion of Marketing Store Operation. 

Store Management is an advanced marketing class designed for those students who have successfully completed one year of store operations. Students will be provided the opportunity to learn business management through academic learning and hands on management. Students will serve as members of the Management Decision Making Team, guiding their peers and implementing operational procedures. Students taking this course are expected to take a leadership part in many community activities the marketing class participates in. They will also be active members of the Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA). As managers, there will be after school meetings to facilitate the decision making process. Each manger will be responsible for a project and the direction of others. Each manager will also prepare a written manual for the course and DECA programs. Work experience is available in conjunction with this course.

MARKETING  RETAILING TRAINING WORK EXPERIENCE

1 Year                         Credit:  1

Credit will be granted to working students who complete on-the-job training in the retailing field. Students must be enrolled in another marketing class, be 16 years old, and able to provide their own transportation to and from work. Strict attendance is stressed along with following directions, getting along wit employers and employees, and being responsible. The teacher will assist students in finding retail work in the business community.
